Mission Statement:
Educational ReadSources, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting
effective classroom reform and helping at-risk youth develop literacy and 21st
century workplace skills. To this end, we train teachers to restructure their classrooms
and implement a research-based, innovative program, incorporating effective instructional
methods, new roles for students and teacher, computers as tools of instruction, a
redefined curriculum, which involves community members as classroom volunteers and mentors
for students. Through business partnerships and grants, we provide resources for
transforming classrooms into 21st Century Workplace Classrooms, and offer
teacher support to facilitate and ensure their success.
History:
Educational ReadSources, Inc. was recognized, by the Internal Revenue Service, as
a 501 (c)(3) corporation in April, 1999. The leadership of our organization is comprised
of a Board of Directors and an Advisory Board of dynamic educators and businesspersons,
under the presidency of founder, award-winning teacher and author, Marge Christensen
Gould.
We present 3-day Teacher Training Workshops to
assist educators across the U.S. in creating and implementing their own 21st
Century Workplace Classrooms. Many school districts award teachers professional
development credit for completing these workshops.
We also offer 1-day workshops on-site for schools or
districts. These focus on several topics, including:

Board of Directors
Marge
Christensen Gould, President Marge is a high school English teacher. For 16
years, has taught and coordinated an innovative literacy and workplace skills program for
at-risk students under the auspices of the Arizona Supreme Court and the Tucson Unified
School District. The program focuses on helping at-risk students to succeed in school and
in the 21st century workplace. Author of the books, Developing Literacy
and Workplace Skills: Teaching for 21st Century Employment - Second Edition,
Motivational English for At-Risk Students(Solution Tree), Reclaiming
At-Risk Youth for the 21st Century Workplace, a Case Study published in the ASCD
Curriculum Handbook, (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development),
and several journal articles. Named to All USA First Teacher Team 2000, by USA
Today. Selected as 2000-2001 Teacher of the Year for the 76/Circle K
Outstanding Faculty Awards Program, and honored as an Outstanding Arizona Educator
2001, by the Phoenix Suns and America West Airlines. Her program was selected by
the Arizona School Board Association for the 1st place 2000- ASBA
Golden Bell Award, for outstanding curriculum which has significant impact on improved
student performance.
John Clark has over twenty-five years of
experience in Human Resources at the professional and management level, in both public and
private organizations. Has been an active advocate for business and education
partnerships, and served as Chair of Pima County High Tech Education Council. Has been
involved in Marge Christensen Goulds classroom as a guest speaker, Mock Job
Interviewer, and panel participant in the Educational ReadSources Teacher Training
workshops.
Lt. Col. Carlos Garcia, Jr., Treasurer - veteran
in the USAF, - fighter pilot, and instructor pilot. Motivational speaker for students in
grades K-12. Has been involved with Marge Christensens program as a guest speaker ,
and participant in Mock Job Interviews for 13 years. Mentored several students, and
presented with other mentors at educational conferences throughout the U.S.
Herman Gould , O.D. -Doctor of Optometry with 40
years of experience working with children and their vision. Served on faculty at Illinois
College of Optometry. He served as Vision Consultant to the Arizona State School for the
Mentally Retarded and Physically Handicapped, and the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. Has
lectured at schools, written articles for optometric and educational magazines,
newsletters and newspapers on vision and reading. Also presented for the Educational
ReadSources 3-day Teacher Training Workshop. Volunteers in Marge C. Goulds classes.
Selected as one of four outstanding volunteers presented with the It Takes a Village
Award by the University of Arizona College of Education, in 2001. Dr. Gould has
lectured at schools, written articles for optometric and educational magazines,
newsletters and newspapers on vision and reading.
Michael A. Halle has been a Health Care
Informatics System Integrator for twelve years. Has been involved with many
civic and community projects and organizations. For 9 years, has been very
involved with the Mentors Program for Marges students. Also, served as
Coordinator for 25 Mentors for Intergroup Health Care Corporation who participated in the
Mentors Program. Mike has also presented with Marge Christensen Gould and other
mentors at numerous education conferences throughout the U. S.
Mark Hanna-retired retail manager, the last twenty as a
general manager for Costco Wholesale in various places such as Phoenix, Albuquerque,
New Jersey, and Brooklyn, NY. Completing degree at University of Arizona College of
Education to pursue a new career in teaching. Volunteers in Marge Christensen-Gould's
English for the 21st Century Workplace classroom .
Ellen Reed retired high school
guidance counselor, - Tucson, Arizona. Named Arizona Counselor of the Year 2000, member of
the American School Counselor Association and a Board member of the Arizona School
Counselor Association. Serves on Pima County Tech Prep Consortium Counselor Board.

Kathleen D. Benedict -
teacher/coordinator, at Learn Center, Anderson County, Tennessee Schools, for the 21st
Century Workplace Program, an alternative learning program for high school students,
emphasizing literacy, mentoring, and career preparation. Presenter for Educational
ReadSources 3-day Teacher Training Workshop, 1999, 2001, and 2003. Presented with panel of
Educational ReadSources board members at 2001 ASCD Conference in Boston, MA.
Kim Clark - an attorney in Phoenix, AZ.
She earned a Juris Doctor degree at Harvard Law School and is active in the Harvard Law
School Alumni Association Phoenix Chapter, American Bar Associations Young Lawyers
Division, Committee on Youth Violence. Former Executive Dir. for Arizona Coalition to End
Homelessness.
Jeffrey C. Jones
-President of Solution Tree, Bloomington, Indiana. The Solution
Tree focus is on
providing research-based resources such as books, videos, conferences, and professional
development, for educators and caregivers
with a passion for helping all children to succeed.
Judyth Lessee library
information specialist. Currently, library manager a high school library, Tucson, AZ.
Administers an innovative school to work program where "Student Library
Trainers" provide technical assistance for faculty and students. Teaches general
studies and continuing education courses for the University of Phoenix.
Ann Mangold - Director of
Instructional Technology, Valley View School District, Chicago, IL. Experienced in
classroom teaching university teaching, serving as district level instructional technology
director, and staff development. Primary focus is on the implementation of instructional
technology resources in the classroom. Serves as a Plan Peer Review facilitator for the
state of Illinois, and has presented at numerous national conferences.
John Meyer -President and founder of The
Young Authors Foundation, Inc, Boston, MA, which publishes Teen Ink, a large
national monthly magazine written entirely by teens and for teens. The magazine publishes
fiction, nonfiction, poetry, opinions, book, movie, and college reviews, and much more for
its 250,000 monthly readers. John and his wife, Stephanie compiled Teen Ink, a book
written by teens, and published by HCI, publisher of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books.

Steve Santa Cruz - President of S C Design,
San Diego, California. Strong advocate of education and of the importance of preparing
todays students to succeed as tomorrows workforce. Participant in a San Diego
Chamber of Commerce Round Table group focusing on improving education in that community.
Strongly committed to Marges program in Tucson since 1987, when he donated the
carpeting for her office classroom, and regularly served as a guest speaker for her
classes. He arranged for field trips, mock job interviews, mentors, and career shadowing
opportunities established a scholarship fund for her students who attend the University of
Arizona. Serves as presenter at the 3-day teacher training offered by Educational
ReadSources.
Russell Watson, PhD - Dean, Initial Entry
Training, of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center- Fort Huachuca. Prior to his current
position, he served as Chief of Staff and Faculty Training for the Intelligence School,
and then as Deputy Director for Operations, Training and Doctrine of the Intelligence
Center and Fort Huachuca., AZ.
Denise Wilburn, PhD -serves the
Anderson County Schools, TN, Director of Federal Projects. Received her PhD in curriculum and instruction from
the University of Tennessee. Spearheaded the move to implement the 21st Century
Workplace Classroom program in TN. She will serve as a presenter for the 2003 Teacher
Training Workshop.
